ActiPension

The association brings together retirees, surviving spouses and active employees of Rio Tinto Alcan (RTA), who participate in the RTA pension plan (RTAPP).

Our association was incorporated in 2001 and has nearly 1,800 members.

The RCRA name and logo were used from 2001 until September 2019 to identify the association. Subsequently, we continued our operations under the name ActiPension to better reflect our mission and our members.

ActiPension funding relies solely on membership fees.

The masculine gender is used to simplify the text.

ActiPension’s mission is to defend the rights and economic interests of its members with respect to pension fund management with Rio Tinto and the various levels of government.

RTAPP members join ActiPension because it is:

  •  Able to represent them as a credible voice.
  • Recognized for achieved results.
  • Consulted by stakeholders in the field.

ActiPension has adopted social values that serve as guidelines for its administrators and volunteers. These values are:

Ethics

ActiPension acts while adhering to very rigorous management and administration rules. As stipulated in the code of ethics for BoD members and volunteers, it also ensures the confidentiality of the information it holds and demonstrates a high level of transparency regarding its financial operations and activities.

ActiPension conducts itself in a fair and honest manner. It avoids situations in which it would become liable to anyone who might unduly influence it in the performance of its functions

Respect

In the context of ActiPension’s activities, members are respectful in all their interactions. They show consideration, courtesy, a listening ear and discretion with others.

Equity

ActiPension members are considered with equity, impartiality and all the attention they deserve. Any discrimination based on sex, age, ethnicity, political affiliation, beliefs, and so on, is unacceptable.

Any actions that could unduly favour one person to the detriment of another are avoided.

Collaboration

Based on their interests and availability, ActiPension members get involved with various working teams in pursuit of common goals. They actively participate in various meetings.

ActiPension also collaborates with other retiree associations to meet its strategic objectives.

We adhere to these values in our interactions with each other, as ActiPension members, and in our interventions with other people and institutions.

Creation of the association

  • March 2001 - Following certain unilateral decisions by the company that affected the management of the Alcan Pension Plan (APP), a group of about 40 retired executives established an association with the mission to defend the rights and interests of retirees and surviving spouses.
  •  May 2001 - General meeting of our pension fund retirees, formation of an interim committee and appointment of an interim president.
  • August 2001 - Receipt of official letters patent recognizing the Association as a non-profit organization that brings together members of the Alcan retirees pension fund, APP beneficiaries and surviving spouses.
  • October 2001 - First official general meeting of the association bringing together 150 APP retiree beneficiaries and election of a board of directors.

Change of name

Our association brings together retirees and active employees, including executives, unionized employees and non-unionized employees. What our members have in common is that they are participating or have participated in the RTAPP. To better reflect this diversity, the RCRA adopted a new name and visual signature. Starting in September 2019, the association took on the name ActiPension.
